Königsbacher Ölberg
VDP.ERSTE LAGE

The Ölberg adjoins the Idig directly to the north. The vineyards are located relatively high on the edge of the Haardt and are inclined to the east-southeast. Through this, the vines get sun early in the morning. Especially on hot days, the early shade of the mountains brings rest to the vines. Air currents from the neighboring Klausental in the Palatinate Forest bring additional cooling at night. The soil of the Königsbacher Ölberg is characterized by Tertiary limestone marl, the so-called terra fusca. In the topsoil this is mixed with red sandstone rubble. In the 2018 vintage, we re-grafted half of the old vines in our plot to French clones. The density and spice of the French clones, coupled with the finesse and elegance of the old vines, bring a great tension to the wine.
