Pinot Noir 2023
“Fruit, body, spice, tannin and acidity are in harmony like a symphony orchestra. […]
Probably the best IDIG Pinot to date. Which begs the question: Where will it end?”
Harald Scholl for Vinum about the 2023 Idig Spätburgunder GG.
Such words fill us with joy – and with humility. It makes us proud that our Pinot Noirs are now firmly among the best in Germany. At the same time, we are driven by the question “Where does it end?” We are constantly questioning ourselves, striving for further development and working consistently to make our wines even more precise, elegant and profound.
After a balanced growing season with a long ripening phase, the grapes from the 2023 vintage were healthy, of medium size and with ideally ripened skins. This allowed fine, clear fruit aromas to develop without losing freshness. Fermentation was quick and the extraction of color and tannins was rapid, which is why we left the wines on the skins for a slightly shorter time than usual to preserve elegance and balance. The 2023 Pinot Noirs combine juicy red fruit with cool spice, precise tannin structure and a deep, pure color. They are harmonious, balanced and show great potential for development – an expression of a vintage that combines character and finesse in equal measure.
We are particularly pleased to be able to present a new wine this year: the Schild GG from Gimmeldingen now complements our range. It is a privilege for us to work in one of the best-rated vineyards in our home village of Gimmeldingen. Small terraces, massive limestone and a unique microclimate provide the perfect basis for wines with depth and radiance. The first vintage has already received much acclaim – a fine confirmation of the great potential of this special place.
