Mussbacher Eselshaut

VDP. FIRST SITUATION

The Mussbacher Eselshaut has always been an integral part of our vineyards. Although the vineyards are part of the village of Mussbach, they lie on a foothill in front of Gimmeldingen that slopes gently down to Neustadt. Facing south, the Pinot Noirs enjoy the sun during the day and benefit from the rapid cooling in the evening thanks to the wind from the Gimmeldinger Valley. The big day-night difference brings a lot of tension to the wines. The coarse soil of red sandstone rubble and loess loam forces the vines to root deeply.
The old vines, planted in 1987, give us aromatic, concentrated grapes. Thanks to the slightly warmer location during the day, the Eselshaut is a wonderfully concentrated Pinot Noir without being too powerful.
